The 21st Century Virtual Reality Colour Organ - a work in progress by Jack Ox. Graphics and programming and architecture by Dave Britton. "My long term interest has been to create and solve problems encountered in the visualization of music as an abstract phenomenon. This self-authored system for translating extant compositions into visual performance involvesInformation theory with a complex layering of systems. The art works which have emerged from this process have embodied principles of Intermedia, as defined by Dick Higgins, the late avant-garde theorist and Fluxus artist. Intermedia is a completely different concept from multimedia, although it can be included in a multimedia environment. While with multimedia, content is presented in more than one medium…

Steina Vasulka - Trevor (1999) Trevor features manipulated video footage of musician Trevor Wishart, with his words electronically slurred into a stream of synthesized gibberish. Our attempts to understand what he is trying to communicate are frustrated as both he and the viewer are subjected to digital control.

Gary Hill - Ring Modulation (1978) - Ring Modulation is a video monitor whose screen is divided into three sections showing a close-up of hands bending a metal rod into a circle, a full view of this circle, and an electronically generated circular image created by Hills vocalization of an Ah sound.

Scott Arford - Static Room (2003) Static Room is a two-channel video installation of an abstract composition created from manipulated static with an audio track generated directly by the same signal - the flickering, strobing image itself. The resulting space immerses the viewer in an ephemeral synesthetic environment where one can hear the image and see the sound.

Stephen Vitiello - Light Reading(s): Visual Mix is a single channel video based on a live performance with a hand-held photocell that varies the flow of electric current according to the amount of light falling upon it. The resulting sound translation is sent through an assortment of custom sensors and vintage processors, generating a luminous single channel video projection and droning, delicate or scratchy surround sound.

Steve Roden - Finding words in music (2006)
steve roden - finding words in notes (music for 6 hands), 2006 "finding words in notes" came out of the idea of the connection and separation of the notes on the lines and spaces of the musical staff. the small sculpture uses the notes on the spaces - f,a,c,e - to determine its structure, while the larger sculpture uses the notes on the lines - e,g,b,d,f. their colored stems are based on research on synesthesia and the various color to musical note equivalents i could find."
