Performing Media Festival - 2023 - South Bend, Indiana
The Performing Media Festival [PMF~2023] is an annual showcase of audio-visual performance works in which artists working with emerging technologies unapologetically cross disciplinary boundaries to create new works of integrated media. Inspired by Debora Bernagozzi’s curated show titled Performing Media: Works by Signal Culture Artists, "Performing Media", as Debora called it, eloquently encapsulates the performance of multimedia works that underpin all the events of the current festival, named after that exhibition. Over the years, co-founders Ryan Olivier and Eric Souther came to define performing media as a genre that uses multimedia elements in a performative manner, which so far has come to include live audio-visual performances, generative media proce…

Ryoichi Kurokawa - single channel to sculptural display
Ryoichi Kurokawa, arranging the audiovisual display Ryoichi Kurokawa creates stunning audiovisual work for music concert and installation settings. His aesthetic has a recognisable visual and sound, although that aesthetic does appear in lots of other visual and sound approaches by other artists working at this time, one can still recognise Kurokawa’s work. I did a bookmark type blog post in 2009 about his work. Revisiting his work and examining the documentaiton on his website (a really lovely experience in itself), his work has really developed in the interim period and in particular what is of note is his use of the display in his work in which he arranges in unusual positions. For example, in rheo: 5 horizons, the 5 HD plasma displays are arranged not hori…

Ryoichi Kurokawa - rheo: 5 horizons
Ryoichi Kurokawa - rheo: 5 horizons on vimeo http://vimeo.com/31319154 I previously posted an excerpt from the stunning rheo: 5 from the youtube website.  Ryoichi Kurokawa's vimeo channel is worth checking out and the wonderful rheo: 5 is on that. This is a beautiful work, and there is something about odd numbers.  The arrangement into 5 screens is really interesting, it reminds me also of the earlier work Roy Lichtenstein's Three Landscapes - again an arrangement of an odd number of screens, this time 3, it also deals with horizon. I did a short blog post on my other blog - sounding visual blog on Roy Lichtenstein's Three Landscapes, recently reshown. see: http://soundingvisual.blogspot.com/2012/01/roy-lichtensteins-three-landscapes.html Excer…

Audiovisuelle Rauminstallation fear:love by Gerrit Kress
This is a very fascinating audio visual work - emulating human emotion - those of love and fear, and how wonderful this piece is. The introduction is like the audiovisual elements breathe together.... a beautiful artwork. Audiovisuelle Rauminstallation fear:love from Institut Fuer Musik Und Medien on Vimeo . "fear: love is an audiovisual installation by Gerrit Kress, which deals with the two emotions fear and love. It shows the center of human emotion: an inner core that contains the particular emotion, grown in a system of transmitting and receiving arms that allow communication with the body and mind."[google translate from German] Source: vimeo link: http://vimeo.com/23318809
