"Jan Mayen" is the title for a music video directed by Michael Fragstein at Büro Achter April for Boozoo Bajou´s Album '4'. The video is really beautiful. Abstract as the director says just like the music. There are some really lovely animations of forms into and out of other forms and I love the colour combinations. Very intersting work being created by Michael and his team at Büro Achter April, they are based in Stuttgart, Germany. Johnathan Gillie's animations are such surreal worlds which animate in the most unusual manner where many things exist at different times and in different spatial locations with their own temporal appearance and disapearance, for his work 'Ways of seeing' he considers the physiological processes involved in the act of seeing itself. I have just come across the work of Andreas Karaoulanis. His animations are 'stop me in my tracks' beautiful. I have watched some from his vimeo channel, but felt I must post this to keep track of this great work. Why do I like it? The illustrations in a moving collage type style are so rhythmic. The movements and the flat arrangement of objects and cut outs in a formless and groundless space, in fact, the space is just a background colour in many works, is perfectly in tune with the musicality of the music, not just a synchronised beat but a whole mood, style and playfulness that may not even be apparent in the music, if one listened to the music on its own, but emerges with his playful rhythms and arrangement and positioning of independent yet connected to each other graphic elements. The online article "A Brief History of Optical Synthesis" was written by Derek Holzer in 2007 as part of his Tonewheels project exploring optical sound and colour music. Vibeke Sorensen's Visual Music Installation, Illuminations is being presented as part of the ART section of the 3-D Festival Beyond at Karlsruhe, Germany from 03 October to 06 October, 2013. The installation was also held at the International Visual Music Symposium of the Center for Asian Art & Design, (CAAD) at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, October 12 - 14, 2012.  I attended the installation in Singapore, and it quite stunning.  The screens are presented at angles in a darkened room and the imagery is luminous and colourful.  The interaction between the imagery on each screen is analagous to a visual music. Fractal is a contemporary music production company set up by Anna Murray and Philip Lawson. It aims to create new contexts for contemporary music through informal settings and collaboration with other media. We are dedicated to new Irish music, programming full concerts of works by Irish composers, including specially commissioned music.
